Thursday Night Concert has International Flair

Marking tal, or keeping the time signature with hand gestures.

As part of our Carnatic Indian Classical music residency, we were pleased to present Nirmala Rajasekar as our weekly Thursday night concert to include more family.  Nirmala was joined by Shrini Vasan on Mridangam drum and Balaji Chandran who performed on Ghatam, a claypot instrument specially used as a percussion instrument in South Indian Classical music.  Nirmala shared the history of the instruments, explained the origins of the ragas she was using and even got us keeping tal, marking the time signature with hand gestures.
