COMMUNITY UPDATE

Dear Friends of Jones-Harrison,

Summer has flown by, and we have enjoyed picnics in the courtyard, walks to Cedar Lake, rickshaw rides around the neighborhood, outings to local attractions, musical performances in the Centrum, and much more. It’s exciting to see the leaves changing colors as we transition into fall. A lot has happened since the last newsletter, and we want to share a few highlights with you.

ART & EARTH FUNDRAISING EVENT WAS A SUCCESS!

It was a picture-perfect day on June 4, 2022, for the Art & Earth event. We welcomed 120 people to Jones-Harrison, including supporters, partners, neighbors, residents, and families. The Kings of Cole trio played under the gazebo while we enjoyed an art exhibit and silent auction. Fabulous hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and beverages were served.

Revitalizing the Courtyard

Thanks to everyone who attended and donated to revitalize the courtyard garden and support arts and culture activities for residents. Together, we raised $29,335. Due to the landscaping company’s busy schedule, the garden work will begin next Spring. Check out the design plans.

New Exercise Equipment Coming Soon

A generous donor gifted the funds to purchase new accessible exercise and physical therapy equipment for our Wasie Wellness Center. The equipment will arrive in October. We are excited!

WILL YOU VOLUNTEER WITH US?

Just an hour or two a month makes a huge difference to residents. Does your student need volunteer hours? Are you retired and have time to give? Is your company looking for ways to give back to the community? We need volunteers, no specific skills are required, and it’s rewarding!

Ways to Get Involved:

• Hospitality Visits: socialize with residents
• Recreation: help with arts and activities
• Outing and Special Events: come with us as we visit local attractions
• Pet Visits: bring your well-mannered furry friends
• Share an Interest/Skill: travel, computers, music, woodworking, etc.

INCLUSIVITY IN ACTION: RAINBOW CONNECTION SOCIAL GROUP

We welcome all residents and allies of the LGBT+ community to join this social hour of games, music and socializing led by a trained facilitator. Meetings are held on the third floor in the Assisted Living Great Room every other Wednesday at 1:15 PM (check the monthly activities calendar for exact dates). We want everyone to feel safe, supported, and accepted for exactly who they are—because we care!

DONATE YOUR DVDS

If you have DVDs that are not being watched, please donate them to our in-house movie theater. On the last Friday of every month, we have a movie matinee. We recently watched Grand Torino, and residents thoroughly enjoyed it. Who doesn’t love popcorn and a movie? You can drop DVDs off at the front desk or mail them to Jones-Harrison at 3700 Cedar Lake Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55416.

HALLOWEEN COSTUME PARTY

Happy Halloween! On October 31, 2022, at 2:00 PM (barring Covid-related cancellations), we’ll have a party in the Centrum for residents. An Elvis impersonator will perform, desserts will be served, and everyone is encouraged to wear a costume.

Did you know Jones-Harrison is a polling place? The next state general election is November 8, 2022. We’re a polling place for precinct: MINNEAPOLIS W-7 P-04 1670. We encourage you to do your part and vote.
